Lakeshore Civic Review
Community organisations, local giving and civic life on Ohio north coast

About

About Lakeshore Civic Review

An independent review of how community organisations on Ohio north coast are governed, funded and held to account: nonprofit boards, local giving, public space and the machinery of municipal government.

Lakeshore Civic Review covers the unglamorous machinery of community life: how small organisations are governed, where their money comes from and what obligations attach to it, who maintains shared space, and which public bodies decide these things. Most of this is a matter of public record and almost none of it is reported, because it is slow and local and rarely dramatic.

The audience is people who have ended up responsible for something without a professional back office behind them: a volunteer treasurer, a new board member, a friends group that has just been handed a park, a committee that has discovered it is subject to rules nobody mentioned.

What this publication is not

Lakeshore Civic Review is independent. It is not affiliated with, funded by, or speaking for any congregation, denomination, charity, municipality or public body, and nothing here should be read as a statement by or about any organisation that has previously used this domain name.

Nothing published here is legal, tax or financial advice. Requirements differ by state and by an organisation's own governing documents, and the right source for a specific question is the organisation's counsel or the relevant public office.
